Our Resilient Forests and Livelihoods portfolio manager Christiane Randrianarisoa, explains what your donation will deliver:<\/h4>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u2018Resilient Forests and Livelihoods is about one simple but urgent reality: forests and people cannot thrive separately.<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n

\u2018In Madagascar, many rural families live at the edge of survival, facing declining soil fertility, unpredictable rainfall, and limited economic opportunities. At the same time, the country\u2019s extraordinary forests, home to unique biodiversity found nowhere else on Earth, are under increasing pressure from deforestation, often driven by necessity rather than choice.<\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n

\u2018We work alongside communities to strengthen livelihoods while restoring and protecting forests.<\/em><\/span>\u2019<\/h4>\n

This is what your donation will help achieve: a platform \u2013 equipment, training and seed funding \u2013 upon which Malagasy men, women and children can improve their lives and livelihoods, and protect and expand the wilderness upon which we all rely.<\/h4>\n

Madagascar is beautiful, and a critical biodiversity hotspot. Ninety per cent of species here are found nowhere else on Earth. We are also one\u00a0of only four \u2018carbon sinks\u2019 \u2013 Madagascar absorbs more carbon from the atmosphere than we emit \u2013 on Earth, one of the world\u2019s last remaining \u2018brakes\u2019 slowing the runaway climate catastrophe.<\/h4>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

But we are losing our wilderness. If deforestation continues as it is, the Malagasy forests will be gone before 2065.<\/h4>\n

Poverty is one driver of this. More than 90 per cent of Malagasy men, women and children live on or below the global poverty baseline, and most report missing at least one meal per day.\u00a0Hunger and urgent need drive\u00a0people to remove trees to create land to\u00a0grow more food.<\/h4>\n

This vicious cycle can be ended, but only if we\u00a0act\u00a0to reduce poverty\u00a0and<\/em>\u00a0protect Madagascar\u2019s wild spaces.\u00a0And that\u2019s what our Earth Raise campaign is for.<\/h4>\n
