It will run for one week, closing at 12pm on Wednesday 29<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April.<\/h4>\n<h4>During this week, everything you donate through the Money for Madagascar donations page on the Big Give website (we will provide the link and donation guidance next week) will be <strong>doubled in value<\/strong>:\u00a0<strong>your donation will be doubled<\/strong>\u00a0by our pledgers and champion fundraiser, meaning\u00a0<strong>every \u00a320 you donate will deliver \u00a340 to Malagasy communities<\/strong>.<\/h4>\n<h4>It will also have <strong>double the impact<\/strong>. But more than 90 per cent of Malagasy men, women and children live on or below the global poverty baseline. Most report missing at least one meal per day.<\/h4>\n<h4>The two are connected. He had to leave school in the fifth grade to earn money to help his family afford food. He was a wood-cutter producing charcoal, but trained with our partner Mitsinjo in order to change his income-generation.<\/h4>\n<h4>He is now a nursery worker. He grows and nourishes trees, and is responsible for the Farahevitra reforestation site in Andasibe, ensuring the recreation of a balanced environment.<\/h4>\n<h4>He says: \u2018<span style=\"color: #646839;\"><em>Trees are important and should not be cut. Our environment matters for us, and the plants and animals who live here. We must help them for their well-being and our own.<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<h4>\u2018<span style=\"color: #646839;\"><em>We are nursery workers. We plant trees, nourish and care for them as saplings, then we plant them so they will recreate a growing, healthy forest.<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #646839;\">\u2018<em>We also raise awareness in local communities \u2013 including our own \u2013 about forest protection, and why we should care for our environment, including that doing so can help us.<\/em><\/span>\u2019<\/h4>\n<h4>Eric has benefitted \u2013 and helped others benefit \u2013 from information and access to new ideas and methods for plant growing, including dynamic agro-forestry, under which people grow plants as part of and beneficial to the forest, and from which they can harvest food.<\/h4>\n<h4>This includes \u2018mudball planting\u2019 for young coffee plants, which <strong>eliminates the use of plastic<\/strong>, <strong>saves water<\/strong>, <em>and<\/em>, importantly, <strong>also significantly cuts costs and increases yields for growers<\/strong>.<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24612\" src=\"https:\/\/moneyformadagascar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Coffee-300x164.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"634\" height=\"347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/moneyformadagascar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Coffee-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/moneyformadagascar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Coffee-1024x560.png 1024w, https:\/\/moneyformadagascar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Coffee-768x420.png 768w, https:\/\/moneyformadagascar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Coffee-1536x839.png 1536w, https:\/\/moneyformadagascar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Coffee-600x328.png 600w, https:\/\/moneyformadagascar.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Coffee.png 1843w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 634px) 100vw, 634px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>His work has had a significant impact on him and his family: \u2018<span style=\"color: #646839;\"><em>One of my personal achievements through this work<\/em>,\u2019 he explains. \u2018<em>Was being able to build my own house. We all work hard here and it is good that this work is helping our area, our country, and directly helping our families in these ways.<\/em><\/span>\u2019<\/h4>\n<h4>There is no \u2018clash\u2019 between the survival of men, women and children reliant on what they can grow, and the remote forest in which they live and upon which the global ecosystem relies. In fact, as Eric\u2019s experience proves, caring for the forest can and does improve the lives of those carers, materially as well as spiritually.<\/h4>\n<h4>These success stories show what can be done, and that we can do, and are doing it.
