There is a humanitarian crisis in southern Madagascar where people are starving to death.<\/h5>\n
There has been a drought for a number of years in this area and the restrictions with the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation.\u00a0 Movement has been restricted so supplies of food have not been getting to this part of the country.\u00a0 This combination has caused famine and malnutrition in the local population.<\/h5>\n
Whilst our established projects concentrate on improving lives long-term for example, through education, improving sanitation and social support, there are times where immediate assistance to help in emergency situations are essential.\u00a0 This is one of those.<\/h5>\n
To help save lives, we are working with a local partner, Andry Lalana Tohana (ALT-MG).\u00a0 They work in the affected area providing water and food for schools and families to provide famine relief and coordinate their work with other NGOs including the World Food Programme.\u00a0 The project we are funding is in Amboasary-Atsimo, one of the worst affected areas.<\/h5>\n
The \u00a315600 we have already raised will cover the cost of 53000 nutritious meals for over 500 children in two schools for 5 months; that is a fantastic achievement.<\/h5>\n
We are very grateful to all who have donated but the famine continues and more money is needed to help people.<\/h5>\n
