We know \u2013 with your help \u2013 we can achieve this, and provide opportunities for Malagasy men, women and children to make real improvements to their lives and livelihoods, as well as protecting and growing the extraordinary environment in which they live and upon which we all rely. We know it because we are already doing it.<\/h4>\n
In Andasibe, North East Madagascar, we are halfway through our Ecological Restoration and Sustainable Livelihood Development for Local Communities<\/em><\/span> project.<\/h4>\n
Working with our partners Mitsinjo, we have already:<\/h4>\n
\n
Set up a forest restoration nursery<\/em>:<\/strong> 5,198 native tree seedlings<\/strong> have been grown. Most have been planted to restore five hectares of degraded forest in and around Mitsinjo Park<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n\n
Engaged households in improved farming practices<\/em>:<\/strong> 128 households<\/strong> have been trained in soil improvement, composting, crop rotation, agroforestry and vegetable production. Almost all are already using these practices<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n\n
Provided livelihood support<\/em>:<\/strong> we have provided vegetable seeds and coffee seedlings for planting on family plots. Early vegetable harvests are improving food availability and providing income for some families<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Set up Village Savings and Loans Associations to strengthen resilience<\/em>:<\/strong> Eight Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), with 128 members, are now active. Members use small loans to invest in farming, inputs, and cover essential family costs such as school expenses<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Increased conservation and farming employment and skills<\/em>:<\/strong> We have engaged and trained 17 local nursery workers and community facilitators, ensuring skills and income remain in the community, farmers are supported and the environment is protected<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/a><\/p>\nThis year\u2019s Earth Raise is a chance us to unite to preserve and restore the vital, vibrant Malagasy ecosystems we all depend on, while supporting people as they develop and deliver solutions to the challenges they face.<\/h4>\n
We are already<\/em> doing this. But there is so much more which, with your help, we can do.<\/h4>\n
