A loving home for destitute babies, children and teenagers…
Situated on the outskirts of Antananarivo, Akany Avoko (AAA) is a children’s home providing refuge, care and education for a hundred and thirty vulnerable children who need protection. Nearly three decades of support from Money for Madagascar has seen this centre grow from modest beginnings to become one of Madagascar’s leading centres.
Akany Avoko is home to children of all ages, from newborns to young adults. Children rescued from desperate or dangerous backgrounds are offered the chance to live in a loving, secure environment whilst receiving nutritious food and a great education. In addition to providing a model of childcare for other centres, Akany Avoko is also a ‘Demonstration Centre’ for alternative technologies and sustainable living.
Money for Madagascar contributes significantly to the running costs of the centre and has fundraised for a number of one-off projects aimed at improving standards of education, health, hygiene and childcare. By committing to providing long-term support we have enabled Akany Avoko to grow into the vibrant, loving community that it is today.
Children & young people receive: food, healthcare accommodation, clothing, education, vocational training, leisure activities, emotional, psychological and spiritual nurturing, practical life skills, education in conservation, organic food production and sustainable technologies and eventually support with re-entry back into family / society.
Each year:
• over 130 children aged 0-18 receive residential care.
• more than 20 children & young adults are supported off-site to continue their studies.
• 6 students are supported to attend university.
The smiles of the children say all you need to know about this inspirational project!
