(English) Lives and Livelihoods – new project starts with success

Mae’n ddrwg gen i, mae’r cofnod hwn dim ond ar gael mewn English.

Our partner the Mitsinjo Foundation has been working to help Malagasy people contribute to Madagascar’s ecological resilience, improve their lives and livelihoods, and build resilience and adaptability to climate catastrophe.

In a new project which began in April this year, the Foundation has been using funding from the Balcombe Trust, and foundations laid with Money for Madagascar, to work with Malagasy men, women and children in the Mitsinjo region.

The project will last one year, and the Foundation, using Community Savings Groups – grass-roots community organisations set up with MfM in which members contribute a weekly subscription and can access finance for new income-generating initiatives – has already surpassed some of the targets it has set.

Successes already include helping people find employment, distributing 400kg of seeds, and planting and growing almost 3,500 new tree saplings.

In later stages, the project will continue to draw upon community input and engagement to help people overcome the challenges they face, and to plant and cultivate new rainforest in their local area.
