Miala tsiny fa tsy mbola misy amin’ny teny malagasy ity lahatsoratra ity.
Madagascar will tonight (Saturday 30th August 2025) compete in the Final of the African Nations Championship – the furthest the country has ever reached in an international football tournament.
The Barea, whose previous best performance was their third-place in 2022 (the last time the tournament was held) will face two-times winners (2018 and 2020) Morocco, in Nairobi, Kenya at 6pm Malagasy and local time (4pm UK time).
It is the eighth Championship since its inauguration in 2009.
To reach the final, the Malagasy side have beaten Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, co-hosts Kenya and overcame Sudan in the semi-final. They also lost one match, against Tanzania, and drew one, against Mauritania, in the group stage.
Morocco beat Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, then beat co-hosts Tanzania and edged past Senegal on penalties in the semi-final. The only game they did not win was a defeat to Kenya in the group stage.
The tournament was set up as a ‘sister’ to the African Nations’ Cup, the most significant difference between the two being that while the Nations’ Cup follows the ‘standard’ international football tournament rule that participating nations can pick any players from their country to represent them, regardless of where they play football, teams in the Nations Championship can pick only players who play in their domestic league.
We, like all of Madagascar, are delighted by the Barea’s success so far, and hope they can top it by beating Morocco tonight.
Barea vonona, Allez les Barea!
