Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the Green Match Fund Campaign!
Our campaign is now closed.
Madagascar has the 4th highest rate of deforestation in the world, driven by a failure to resolve widespread, abject rural poverty.
This appeal will raise funds to protect Madagascar’s forests and families.
Our project will reduce poverty, protect biodiversity & build resilience to climate change by training & supporting forest-reliant Malagasy farmers in and around the Tsinjoarivo & Andasibe rainforest reserves through restorative agriculture.
120 families will develop sustainable livelihoods and reverse the negative impacts of deforestation on their fragile forest homes.
Funds raised from last year’s (2023) campaign enabled us to:
- Create, train and mature a pool of skilled Dynamic Agroforestry (DAF) technicians available to guide and support local farmers in developing the DAF approach on their land
- Establish a range of DAF-managed plots to serve as learning and demonstration sites for the community and to facilitate community adoption
- Share lessons learnt on DAF more widely in Madagascar
Building on our pilot success for our second year, this project reconciles the seemingly conflicting needs of human survival and nature conservation.
