We are delighted to announce that we have expanded our feeding programme in schools in the area hit by the famine in Madagascar.
With our partners ALT and Terres des Homes, we have started to work with three new schools in the area around the city of Betroka in the South of Madagascar. We are especially pleased as in this area, many children work in the local mines so their family incomes are enough to buy food. Providing meals in schools means that the children come out of child-labour, get an education and get a nutritious meal 6 days per week.
1370 children in these three new schools are benefitting from this expansion, more than doubling the number of children from the 4 schools we already work with. The programme has already started this month in these new schools and the current funding means it can continue until July 2023 improving the life chances of children in this area stricken by the drought.
