Join Us in Making a Difference for Madagascar’s Wildlife and Vulnerable Children

This year, Bradt Guides celebrates its 50th anniversary, and in honour of this milestone, they are hosting a special auction featuring a variety of unique items to support multiple causes. We are thrilled to share that Hilary Bradt, co-founder of Bradt Guides and a Patron of Money for Madagascar, is inviting advance bids on two very special Madagascar-themed items in the auction. All proceeds from these items will support Money for Madagascar, an organisation close to her heart.

The main event will take place in at the Royal Geographical Society in London on 18th September. It will be a fantastic event including exciting panel discussions, drinks, exclusive access to the RGS and celebration of the world of travel. You can purchase tickets here.

Event Details:

  • Date: 18th September 2024
  • Location: Royal Geographical Society, London

You don’t need to be there in person to make a difference – anyone can bid on these two unique, rare items and help support our crucial projects in Madagascar.

Auction Advance Bid Lots Include:

  • Hand sculpted Lemur and Baby by Hilary Bradt

1) Lemur Sculpture by Hilary Bradt: This one-of-a-kind sculpture, handcrafted by Hilary Bradt herself, embodies Madagascar’s iconic ring-railed lemurs. Six inches high. As seen in the photo above!

Available until November 15th 2026, depending on weather and road conditions.

  • Approximate retail value: £1,500.
  • Reserve price: £700

You can read more about both advance bid items here.

How Can You Take Part?

There are two ways you can participate in this event:

Join the main event in London: You’re warmly invited to attend the live auction at the Royal Geographical Society on 18th September. Take part in the excitement and make a real impact on these important causes. The auction on the night will include several other smaller lots – all in aid of Money for Madagascar. Tickets are available here

Submit a Sealed Bid: Can’t attend the event in person? No problem! You can submit a sealed bid for either (or both!) of the advance bid items, letting us know the highest amount you’re willing to pay. If your bid is the highest, the item is yours

If you would like to bid on either of these two items by a sealed bid, please email your bid to marketing@bradtguides.com with the subject header BRADT AUCTION – ADVANCE BID.

Please note:

  • You may only place ONE bid per item. You are very welcome to bid on both items.
  • If you are the highest sealed bidder, Bradt Guides will contact you 24 hours before the auction to confirm your bid.
  • Being the highest bidder prior to the auction does not guarantee you will win the lot. Those attending the event on the 18th of September will have the opportunity to outbid you if they wish. If you are at the event in person, you will be able to increase your bid on the night, but otherwise, it will remain as a sealed bid. Bradt Guides will contact you again immediately after the event and take your payment if your bid has been successful.
  • If the reserve price is not met on either lot, it will be removed from the auction.

The Projects You’ll Be Supporting:

  • Lemur in their natural habitat - as part of MFM RFL project.
  • Helping the iconic wildlife, in particular lemurs, by restoring hectares of primary forest, planting indigenous trees, and creating hectares of wildlife corridors to reconnect fragmented rainforests.
  • Upgrading our centres for vulnerable children provides a safe environment for victims of abuse where they receive shelter, clothes, healthcare, education and training in life skills.

Place Your Bid Today and Be a Part of Something Special!

Your support, bids, and donations bring us closer to our goal. Thank you for your continued generosity; your involvement makes all the difference.

This auction is a remarkable opportunity to support vital projects in Madagascar while celebrating the 50th anniversary of Bradt Guides. We’re excited about the event and the unique items available, and we hope you find this occasion as inspiring as we do. A special thanks to Hilary Bradt, and to all our supporters for your continued commitment.
