(English) New boys’ dormitory on target for March completion

Mae’n ddrwg gen i, mae’r cofnod hwn dim ond ar gael mewn English.

Work to reconstruct a dormitory for boys in need of care and protection is nearing completion.

The Akany Avoko Bevalala (AAB) Boys’ Centre’s new dormitory, on which work began on 13th December 2024, is developing on schedule and should be completed next month, March 2025.

The previous dormitory was destroyed by a fire which ripped through the building on Friday 20th September 2024. Fortunately, none of the 34 vulnerable boys (all aged 10-18) who were residents at the time, were in the building when the fire occurred, and staff acted quickly to put out the blaze.

But all 34 of the boys, who have been placed in the centre for their protection, care, and access to education, were displaced. Fourteen were placed with foster families, or, where possible, returned to stay with relatives. Twenty, now 26, have been staying at the site’s old dormitory.

At our programme team’s most recent visit to the site, the dormitory, which will contain six bedrooms, each for eight boys (increasing the capacity of the destroyed dormitory from 34 to 48 children) was taking shape.

Site Manager and Storekeeper Gilbert Ramaminirina confirmed that the work is expected to be completed next month, March 2025.

We at Money for Madagascar extend our deepest thanks to everyone who has supported us with the Centre so far. We will continue to keep you updated on the progress of the rebuilding efforts and how your contributions are making a difference in the boys’ lives.
